Chicago Beer Guide

Chicago Illinois is renowned for its architecture, museums and galleries. It’s famed for bright lights and an electric food and drink scene. No matter what you’re into, you’re certain to find something you enjoy in this bustling city. Here is our ultimate Chicago city guide, with the best places for beer, food and sight seeing.

Where to find the best beers…

First stop on our Chicago city guide is where to find great beer. Beermiscuous is a haven for beer lovers, with hundreds of beers to choose from. You can bring your own food too, or order in. This place is super chilled and you can choose small serves to build your own beer flight too. We love Maria’s Packaged Goods and Community Bar for their astonishing selection of beers. They serve between 200-300 in the bar, and 700-800 in their shop. They stock some of the most sought after pours from around the globe. And lastly, we recommend Howells and Hood. This is tucked away at the bottom of the famous Tribune Tower, and serves up modern American food with a tonne of beer. This is an expansive venue, and staff are some of the most knowledgable in town.

Top locally brewed beers to look out for…

There are so many breweries and taprooms to go at in Chicago, but here are some of our favourites. Revolution Brewpub in Logan Square is where the brewery first started, and it’s a meeting place for beer fans from around the world. Here you can try one-off brews that aren’t available anywhere else, so be sure to pick the rare ones! Another favourite is Half Acre Beer Co, who have two breweries in the city. They brew some exciting wild beers, and are wizards when it comes to mixed fermentation. And a new addition to the scene is Forbidden Root Brewery, who opened their doors in 2016. They are reviving old fashioned botanical styles, and create some really unusual flavour combinations. A really unique brewery, you must try them!

Our Chicago city guide to great eats…

We’re going to dive straight in with Smoque BBQ, an all-American spot serving up the best BBQ in the city. They focus on quality dry rubs, delicious sauces and intense smokey flavours. Plus, they’re BYOB, so you can take some of your newly discovered beers with you! If you want to go for something a little more gastronomic, look no further than Entente. They recently picked up a Michelin Star and it’s easy to see why. This is fine dining in a casual setting, no pretence or snobbery, just excellent food in a beautiful setting. For something a little different, try Fat Rice. This place was opened by a team who used to run underground supper clubs, and they serve incredible Macau cuisine. This is a Portuguese-Chinese fusion, and it’s all served up at communal tables to an old-school hip-hop soundtrack. Perfect!

The best sights in Chicago

Finally, our Chicago city guide wouldn’t be complete without sharing some of our favourite sights with you. If museums are your thing, you’ve got plenty to choose from. The Field Museum of Natural History is one of the largest of its kind in the world. You can even make an overnight visit, so you can sleep amongst the dinosaurs… pretty cool huh? The Museum of Science and Industry is also fantastic, boasting the only German submarine in The States, the U-505. If you enjoy getting outdoors then you need to check out the Riverwalk, taking in some of the city’s best sights from the waterfront. And there is always something happening at Millennium Park, from outdoor concerts to sculpture exhibitions and gardens to view. Oh, and the gardens are run by Goose Island, so there’s some great beer available!
